Sinatra & Jobim: bossa nova closing
In 1967, with the bossa movement new practically disbanded, the style and had a great last gasp : recording the classic LP Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim.
The partnership between the conductor, composer, pianist, arranger and guitarist with Rio only Sinatra could yield a record like this, elegant and genial like few others.
In 2008, I interviewed the music critic of JB, de Souza Tárik, highest in Brazilian popular music in the country, for my CBT (Work Completion of course). On the disc, the journalist commented: It is almost
* closing bossa nova, that story is always a joke that the first world bows to the third world. And that's true. One singer even at the height of prestige, which was considered the greatest singer in the world at the time, a composer called the third world to share an album with him. Even singing. He could call Tom Jobim to make some arrangements, or to play a guitar in the back and he recorded some songs. But no, he put Tom to sing too. This is a spontaneous recognition from artist to artist, the artistic quality of bossa nova, and the relevance of bossa nova music.
* Tárik de Souza Farhat, journalist and music critic born in Rio de Janeiro, on November 19, 1946. He worked in Veja, Folha de Sao Paulo, Istoé, Show Bizz, Playboy, among other publications. He currently writes for the Journal of Brazil.
What can I write after that? Here are the two working in a special TV movie of 1967.
